Since starting up six years ago, it has been Fair Trader’s vision to develop our own range featuring the best in British design and branding, combined with materials and craftsmanship from small suppliers around the world who desperately need fairly paid work to help feed, educate and provide the basic essentials for their families.
For a co-operative with less than 1.5 full-time employees this proved quite a challenge, but by working closely with our amazing member volunteers we launched our first products: fabulous slippers, slipper socks, and stoneware mugs from Nepal. The mugs have now sold out, and we have since added fabulous brass jewellery to our range. These items represent brilliant value and are ideal for presents, and we hope customers and co-operators from around the UK will order these items online and help make life less bleak for our supplier communities in Nepal who are still facing huge hardship as a result of the earthquake.
As with all our products, they are assessed by a team of members who look at the economic, environmental, social impacts and traceability of the product and its supply chain, along with their transparency.
We have also developed a range of Fair Trader hampers, packed by our volunteers in eco-friendly cardboard boxes, containing a selection of fairly traded products along with information about the suppliers explaining how your purchase really makes a difference.
Our team are now working on extending the range in 2017 to build a significant online business that, with your help, will allow us to expand further and help more of our supplier communities work their way out of poverty and offer their families a future.
