Flavours of Palestine
Includes delicious home-made three course Palestinian-style meal and a drink.
Come and hear Bassema Barahmeh and Lamis Zamzam tell their inspirational stories of Fairtrade olive and almond farming, and the impact of Fairtrade on their West Bank communities. This is a rare chance to hear two Palestinian speakers – as part of the SUSY project UK speaker tour (www.solidarityeconomy.eu).
Bassema, from Anza village, is a farmer, board member of the Palestine Fair Trade Association, village council member and mother of four. She is also the co-ordinator of a women’s co-operative, which produces two to three tons of maftoul large grain couscous a year. Lamis works at Canaan Fair Trade, assisting Palestinian farmers to sell their organic and Fairtrade produce to the world.
The meal will celebrate the flavours of the region – olive oil, almonds, za’atar herbs, freekeh, maftoul, nuts and dates as well as locally grown vegetables and is being cooked by Fair Trader members. For one evening only, we hope to bring the vibrant colours and stunning flavours of Palestinian cooking to the Pennine village of Brockholes!
Palestinian foodstuffs, hampers and cookery books will also be available to purchase.
Brockholes Village Hall, (Brockholes Lane, HD9 7EB) is in the village of Brockholes, West Yorkshire, between Holmfirth and Huddersfield.
ENTRY TO THE EVENT IS BY PRE-PAID TICKET ONLY
Ticket £20 for Fair Trader member, £25 non-member available in-store or through the webshop
Proceeds will be used to promote and sell Palestinian Zaytoun foods and cook-books at Fair Trader; this will support individuals like Bassema, by providing a market for their produce.
